Making Modern Milk

The Key To Breastfeeding Success Is Preparation

When I had my first baby in 2021 I thought I knew enough about breastfeeding as a beginner IBCLC to be able to rock the breastfeeding experience.

But turns out, not only was I learning from the WRONG people, but I was working off a bunch of outdated information that caused me nothing but pain and problems.

Cut to 2025 when I had my daughter. I thought I was truly prepared and set up for success after years of training and helping families succeed in breastfeeding.

But then my perfect home birth turned into a two day hospital stay after postpartum complications that left me exhausted and scared that my body couldn’t make milk even if I tried.

But this is when all of my preparation came into play.

Because I knew that postpartum bleeding can lead to low supply, I focused from day one on supporting my body and was able to achieve a full milk supply.

Because I knew my nipple damage was caused by a tongue and lip tie, I started her prep exercises and had a successful release and never had to take a break from breastfeeding.

When you take the time to focus on preparing for successful breastfeeding, families find they can handle the obstacles that come up along the way without the mistakes and their breastfeeding experience can thrive.
